I’d probably differentiate if during the walk you pushed yourself physically either in speed or distance.
The goal of activity is to keep moving and stay limber.
The goal of exercise is to stress your body at least a bit safely, so the body will get the signal to build up in some way to improve physical performance.
So the difference between activity and exercise is different for everyone dependent upon their physical health.
Nothing wrong with putting things in categories. There certainly are “day to day “activities”, and then there are the more specific “exercises” that we might do. Personally, over the years those distinctions dissipated, and it all unified to an overriding “engagement”. The exact form of engagement might differ, but it’s all engagement of the bodily systems. The body is amazing in so many ways. No computer or machine can match it in its entirety. It is certainly a masterpiece, but not one that we keep locked up as a museum piece. It was design to be used, and to function as it was designed, it must be used…
Would you differentiate between normal walking as part of everyday activity and intentionally walking 3+ miles a day, everyday?
