By now most of you have heard of MyPlate, the governments version of a healthy diet. If you know me well then you know I don’t necessarily agree with MyPlate. It is too one size fits all as well as way too carb heavy for the majority of people. This is especially true for people with dysfunctional or imbalanced metabolisms evidenced by being Overweight, Obese, Hypertensive or Diabetic among other health issues.
So instead let me introduce you to the IMW Plate. What is nice about the IMW Plate is that it is different for everyone dependent upon their metabolic health.
Here is an example from my dinner last night.
A large grass fed ribeye with a small amount of broiled potato slices. My IMW Plate was about 90% Protein/Fat and 10% Carbs
So we can say my IMW Plate was 90PF-10C or 90-10 for short.
The 90-10 is based on volume on the plate, not calories. So it is just about 100% visual. No counting or measuring necessary.
I found that eating this way keeps me weight neutral and feeling good.
My job working with you at the IMW is to help you figure out your healthiest IMW Plate to meet your Health Goals. The IMWPlate can change with time as your health improves.
So next time we chat in the office or virtually, ask about what your best IMWPlate should look like.

This MyPlate, looks like a reboot of the 4 basic food groups! What’s old is new again. I suppose it’s better than that ridiculous pyramid, but it’s loaded with flaws(no surprise). Yet again, good quality fat is vilified! Milk is being still pushed by the industry. At 30%, grains are way too high. That percentage needs to be swapped with the poor fruits which are down to 10%. I believe these percentages are based on the area on your plate, so 40% vegetables is not as a crazy high, than it would by weight.
This seems well meaning, but too vague and too broad and too difficult to really implement(see below). Honestly, for the adult population, I would just simply recommend using SMALLER PLATES!
MyPlate is supplemented with an additional recommendations, such as "Make half your plate fruits and vegetables", "Switch to 1% or skim milk", "Make at least half your grains whole", and "Vary your protein food choices."
Looking forward to meeting with you on Monday to figure out what IMWPlate will serve me best!
Looks Delicious ! I've become a grass-fed rib-eye fan. Mine was a similar plate, but with asparagus, no potato-e.
