We always have turkey, only on thanksgiving. My sides have changed from stuffing to cauliflower mashers, instead of cranberries, butternut squash steamed and pureed with butter. Our traditional Hungarian mushrooms is everybody's favorite. The new added veg is cut up off the stalk brussel sprouts, cut up shallots, fried in 6 pieces of bacon fat (put cut up cooked bacon aside add at the end). And you do not need the gravy if you cook the turkey, dark side meat up, the turkey naturally juices itself, the fat and juices in the bottom of pan, acts as a better gravy anyway... By this time, no one needs dessert, the tryptophan has kicked in and they are all taking naps while I am cleaning up!
Wishing everyone a happy thanks for giving day, I have enjoyed everything written and posted this year!
Let's see, the most important thing, I make/bring my own gf, dairy free, sugar free pumpkin pie...(paleo crust, coconut cream and honey) I make plain green beans, a stevia cranberry recipe, and plain baked or mashed sweet potatoes. I don't eat the stuffing (I have made some gf in the past), I will typically cheat and eat the gravy...(but my brother will make gf gravy..if I go there) and no, I don't miss it but it does take preparing.
We eat organic and I’m vegan but not for Thanksgiving. My husband is GF and DF so some organic GF and DF is tough to find. But we make it work. Happy Thanksgiving!
It's real easy to eat the same as you would every day on any given holiday. They're not obligatory, so if ya don't participate in someone elses made up traditions that some dead guys started hundreds of years ago, you can comfortably enjoy the same food you normally would, with none of the temptation, and with bonus quiet time. Keep it simple
I am gluten and dairy free, and avoid garlic and onion. Because I am the only person going to Thanksgiving dinner with all of these exclusions, I will bring my own food. I am thinking of bringing salmon and veggies--maybe a baked sweet potato. I also will be bringing a slice of Katz pumpkin pie.
My diet is basically a low carb one. I also do the 16/8 fasting faithfully. I’m usually at someone else’s house for the meal on Thanksgiving. I eat whatever is offered to me on this day. But I do keep the portions down. I little bit of this and a little bit of that. You gotta live a little...
Since going keto, the cravings for high carb foods and desserts have generally disappeared. The feeling I get the next day from indulging doesn't much incentivize it either (malaise, fatigue, achiness, etc). With that said, I find some of these dishes to be "worth it" at times and will enjoy some of it while prioritizing protein and fat. As long as these foods dont trigger a fall back into cravings, I doubt one day can ruin anything.
I follow a gluten free diet because of intolerance. I also eat a fairly low carb diet so not many gluten free breads, pastas etc. because I prefer whole grains when I indulge. All of that being said, Thanksgiving comes once a year and I eat whatever traditional foods that are on the table, including dessert, as long as long as they are gluten free. My daughter-in-law has adapted her mom’s stuffing to be gluten free and it is amazing!
How about TCM diet? It’s based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine of hot/cold or Yin/Yang balance.
For Thanksgiving I enjoy the traditional Thanksgiving meal. I eat a little bit of everything with this balance in mind. (I do drink a little more than usual, though.)
I also use real ingredients (no veg oils, no processed foods).
Was reviewing endocrinology text and came across growth hormone: protein anabolic, promotes lipids as metabolic fuel, inhibits insulin sensitivity. Sounds so much like the desired “ketogenic” metabolic state
So many diets listed and I didn’t see mine. I am an omnivore/opportunistic eater as the vast majority of my particular species and other hominids have been for tens of thousands of years.
The meal would not be much different than the other 364 days of the year, besides turkey perhaps taking the protein spot on the plate.

I always feel fine afterwards.
