Who likes cooking???
I Do!!
When I Intermittent Fast, which is probably 95% of the time, when I do eat, I want it to count. I want it to be nutritious. I want it to be enjoyable. I want control over what I eat. It is probably the control part as to why I prefer home cooking.
Here are some added benefits to home cooking.
Another Challenge to prepare healthy and tasty food.
I get to pick the ingredients. I avoid fake food and ingredients that I can not pronounce.
Creativity- Just follow my Instagram for some examples @IMWHorvitz
Nutrition - I get to decide upon how much protein, fat, carbohydrates, fiber etc is in my meal.
Family time at dinner - This is the best aspect. Nothing beats chillin and bonding with those most important.
Great skill to have - If you can cook you do not have to rely upon others for your nutritional health.
Balancing - I get to decide upon what, when, where, why and how to eat that works for me and my family.
Relaxing - I find it relaxing and chill to be working towards putting a good nutritious meal on the table.
Enjoyable - 29 days out of 30 my food is enjoyable.
It’s me time - I do the cooking because I enjoy it. It's time for me to be alone in my thoughts almost like meditation.
Allows my family more time for their chores/work/projects - while I am preparing meals my family gets to spend more time taking care of their responsibilities and leisure activities.
What does all this have to do with Intermittent Fasting?
To me Intermittent Fasting is not something to put on my schedule as a chore. It is more a way of life that optimizes my health as do all the above reasons why I enjoy home cooking. The home cooking allows me to be a healthy and better balanced independent person. So Intermittent Fasting and home cooking is not just about weight loss. Weight loss is a nice side effect if that is what you are looking for but it is not the main healthy aspect we want to achieve.
Question of the Day:
1. Please address those who can not really afford to lose weight yet wants the other benefits of Intermittent Fasting.
Here are some things to think about if you do NOT want to lose weight while Intermittent Fasting.
Not all calories are equal in terms of what you eat.
Eat plenty of calories to satiety focusing on protein then fat then carbohydrates.
Protein helps to build and maintain your lean body mass, organs, muscles, connective tissues , immune system.
Natural healthy fat is best for energy use without the inflammatory aspect of raising insulin via carbohydrates.
Plan on eating for nutrients not calories.
No need to have 24 hour or longer fasts unless you plan on a rebuilding day to gain weight.

I get many emails from Vegetarians about my preferred diet which works well for me and others. But there are many Vegetarians in my practice who are very healthy eating what works for them. They are vegetarian for their own personal and health reasons just as I am keto-carnivorish for my own personal and health reasons. The key words are personal and health as well as what works for us as individuals. We as individuals should have the freedom to choose our preferred diet without being biased by politics or $$. So I will leave you with this last pic. It is not a shot at vegetarians. But I will not say anything else about the guy on the rights motives.
Please keep the questions and comments flowing. I will try to answer as best I can.
Can you talk more about “natural healthy fats”?
First, thank you for the guidelines.
And, I have always cooked almost all of the meals we eat. For the most part I really enjoy the creative aspect. Once in a while it does become a chore but I have a gluten sensitivity and the risks associated with eating out are not really worth the respite from the kitchen.
