Wow, are you interested now to read this?
If you have been following my diet/nutrition/wellness journey over the past 3-4 months, I have written about how I used Fasting, no snacking, avoiding seed oils, low carb eating, then back to Carnivore, then reduced cheese and replaced with resistant starch in the form of cold previously baked potatoes. This was the zig zag path I took which was successful in losing about 10+ pounds over that time period.
But why did I put that weight on to begin with before getting it off?
Can I blame my daughter for bringing in to the house chocolate, SUMO oranges, dates and carby gluten free cookies? I could, if she had me pinned down, forced open my mouth, and made me eat those things. She did not. She is too nice to do that. Yes she is my daughter.
But I did indulge on my own. Yes that makes me “normal” just like everyone else, but maybe a bit more sarcastic….
So a week ago I was feeling good, weight was great, all my clothes fit again, overall, healthwise and metabolically, life was good and in control.
Then I decided to take one for the team.
You see, just because I lost weight and felt great by removing all those things above, that wasn’t enough evidence for me. You see, to truly prove that I need to avoid those foods, I would need to retest and do the opposite.
Sooooooooooo…….
Over 5 days last week I “indulged” with some french fries, twice. French fries used to be my addiction. French fries from a restaurant, that even though they used olive oil in their fryer, still contained heated inflammatory oils. These inflammatory oils combined with the high carb content of the potatoes, I believe together made me Insulin Resistant. With Insulin Resistance and excess dietary carbs, comes weight gain.
What else did I do?
I started having small pieces of chocolate after a meal, or sometimes two….
I defrosted a gluten free sour dough bread and had 3-4 slices over a few days.
I added back cheese, not just a little with my meal, but almost like my dessert after a meal, and as an occasional snack.
So yes, I started snacking again, and even with very low carb snacks, I still gained weight.
Soooooooooooooo……………………
I woke up this week 5 lbs heavier than I was 10 days ago.
So what to do now besides confessing to all my Common Sense Health and Wellness readers?
Well I believe going back even partly to my previous dietary ways have put the weight back on. So I believe this experiment or perhaps indulgement, by putting weight back on when going back to what makes me Insulin Resistant, confirms my theory.
So I took one for the team, I gained weight by eating less than healthy food, so that you don’t have to. I took one for the team!
But as of Monday January 13, 2025, I am going back to mostly carnivore, no snacks, minimal cheese and no chocolate. This experiment or personal challenge will continue until I take off the quick five I added.
Hopefully you will look at your diet and see what causes you to lose weight, stall or gain weight.
Look at the most common causes of weight gain.
Excess dietary carbs causing insulin resistance
Eating too often
Eating processed foods or high sugar foods
Eating excess dietary fat, especially inflammatory oils
Poor sleep
Not enough sunshine or outdoor activity/grounding
Excess Stress
Hormonal imbalance
Late night eating
My issues were the top 4 in the list.
What are yours?
and chocolate.... no ice cream, well mint chip it was.
Nice going PORKY!! I guess you abandoned a brisk 15 minute walk after eating as well??
