What do you know that you have probably eaten at some point in your life that is made out of flour, cornstarch and corn syrup. Well actually there are a few more ingredients as well.
corn syrup, wheat flour, sugar, cornstarch, and smaller amounts of palm oil, salt, artificial flavor, glycerin , citric acid , potassium sorbate , Red 40, and soy lecithin .
If you said Twizzlers, you are correct.
I guess watch the above video and weep.
Let me break down the ingredients for ya.
Corn syrup and corn starch is pretty much the sugar from corn. 100% carbohydrate. Most likely all genetically modified and filled with pesticides and chemicals used in the growing and harvesting of corn. I have pretty much avoided corn and corn products ever since I learned about how corn is grown in this country.
Wheat flour - Sorry but I just don’t have anything nice to say about wheat. I am not a fan of grains, especially those filled with gluten. Wheat and Gluten can be very inflammatory and cause ill effects in your gut and immune systems and is linked to many Autoimmune health conditions.
Palm Oil - If this is organic natural palm oil I would be OK with this ingredient. But my guess is it is non-Organic and highly processed and probably chemically altered/hydrogenated which makes it a bit more inflammatory/toxic.
Salt - I have no issue here. I like salt. It has gotten a bad and undeserved rap.
artificial flavor, glycerin , citric acid , potassium sorbate , Red 40, and soy lecithin -
I left the rest grouped together as they are all unnatural chemically processed ingredients.
Generally my rule of thumb is to not eat anything with more than 4 ingredients on the label. Also try not to eat anything that has an ingredient you would not eat all by itself.
So really this means eat real food, not fake, industrially processed Frankenfood.
Twizzlers is a Frankenfood. It’s just about all sugar, with some inflammatory grains, and lots of chemicals that your body needs to work through to detoxify. So Twizzlers are an example of negative nutrition. Negative nutrition is when your body uses up more energy and nutrients to detoxify itself from the food, than the food provides in nutrients.
There are many examples of Frankenfoods and negative nutrition. If you want I can continue to post other examples. Or perhaps you can help me out by adding your known Frankenfoods in the comment section below.
We have all eaten Frankefoods at some point in our lives.
But hopefully, now that you know just a few of the health issues that can arise from these, I really shouldn’t say foods, the health issues that arise from this combination of inflammatory unhealthy ingredients, perhaps you can avoid them and substitute real food. Real food, like what your grandparents and great grandparents and great great grandparents ate before industry took over the food system.
If it looks much different on your plate than it did in nature, perhaps don’t eat it.
Frankenfood
I was just reading an article about einkorn. It’s an easily digestible grain that’s never been hybridized and is rich in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and protein. It is recommended for those who avoid gluten. I will research it more but was wondering if anyone from our group has used it?
It wasn’t until my hubby had to go gluten-free that I learned licorice actually has wheat as a main ingredient. I also learned that many shampoos have wheat as an ingredient. I often say we don’t know about illnesses etc until we need to learn. I love to learn and am thankful for good and truthful information.
