We are nearing the peak of COVID in our area. Hopefully within the next week or so cases will start their natural decline. These viral waves rise and fall regardless of any public health intervention. Think about it. We have more people double vaxxed and boosted than ever, people are still wearing masks and social distancing, yet we have more COVID cases than ever.
If things don’t appear as you are told, perhaps they are not really what you are told??
What have we learned this wave?
A virus is going to do what a virus wants to do.
1- We learned that the #Moronic strain is just different enough from preceding strains that people who have already had a previous strain of COVID can get sick again with the #Moronic strain. This was a surprise to many. There are thoughts on how this happened but that would be speculation and conspiracy and I prefer not to delve into those. But if you get COVID again, this time with the #Moronic strain it is almost always much milder. Almost not always.
2- We learned one distinguishing symptom of the #Moronic strain is a bad sore throat.
The #Moronic strain mostly stays in the upper airways meaning the nasal cavities, sinus and throat. It has lower, not zero, but lower affinity for the lungs. This is beneficial to us in that if it stays away from the lungs we have less risk of Pneumonia. Pneumonia from previous strains can be very serious. Sinusitis from the #Moronic strain while not fun will rarely land you in the hospital.
3- While the #Moronic strain has taken over as the dominant strain, unfortunately there does appear to be some Delta strain still circulating.
Why do I say that?
I don’t have a lab that tests for strains but I do observe that some of my COVID patients are still having lung issues and slow to resolve fevers and cough into week two of COVID infection. This is why it is important if and when you get COVID that you stay in touch with your treating physician closely so they can start early treatment as well as adjust treatment as needed. There is a difference in treatment between the first and second week of COVID if it doesn’t resolve.
4- Less then a month ago the White House at the beginning of the rise in #Moronic told everyone that we were in for a winter of death and overrun hospitals, especially in the non-vaxxed. Well thank goodness viruses don't pay attention to politics, race or religion as #Moronic has turned out to be a very contagious virus with much lower hospitalization and death rates, similar to a flu season. Let's hope the politicos see what is truly happening and end their power grabs and mandates and let people live freely again. Actually, should we have to ask to live freely in a free country??
5- I am hearing some reports of people after they recover from #Moronic developing secondary bacterial sinus infections. Theory is that the #Moronic variant since it mainly attacks the sinus cavities causes enough inflammation that your immune system gets busy elsewhere and then a bacterial sinus infection can occur. So stay in touch with your treating physician.
So while we are nearing the end of this COVID wave, which we hope will be the last significant wave, we should all still respect COVID and take all precautions and preventive measures.

ON TO THE DIET CHALLENGE
The Diet challenge will begin on Monday January 17, 2022.
While I will be doing a mostly Carnivore-ish diet, I hope more of you will follow along and attempt any type of "clean-up healthier diet" to improve your overall health. I will put out more info on what I hope to do and track and what is needed in a post tomorrow.
But until then here is a peek at what I will most likely be eating more of beginning next week.
Is your mouth watering as well????
Dr. Horvitz, what are your thoughts on this? I've seen it going around. Is this what we discussed in your office last week?
