What is going on in the media?
So the headline leads you to believe that people aged 30-39 who have mostly been told they are lower risk for COVID complications are now getting infected and hospitalized at a record rate.
When you read a bit closer, here is what the data shows.
“The rate at which adults ages 30 to 39 are entering hospitals with Covid-19 reached about 2.5 per 100,000 people as of last Wednesday, according to the latest data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Department of Health and Human Services, up from the previous peak of roughly 2 per 100,000 people in early January.”
So the fearmongering increase is 0.5 per 100,000 people that age or 1 in every 200,000 that age that get infected. Yet for these very small numbers, the story uses terms like “really bad” and “record clip”??
Seriously what are the writers smoking?
Truly serious though, why would they write such a misleading article?
So this headline makes it look like children who we have been told all along are low risk for COVID complications, are now setting records for hospitalizations. Sounds pretty concerning??
What did they not tell you?
The hospitalizations are mainly for a different virus, RSV, which in young children can be much worse than COVID and usually occurs seasonally.
Most of the hospitalizations were due to RSV symptoms, oh, and by the way, their COVID test also happened to be positive. So these kids are mostly hospitalized due to RSV while tagging along and probably not doing too much damage is COVID. But let’s sensationalize and conflate RSV, a dangerous enough virus in some young children with COVID to continue the COVID fearmongering.
I believe this was done purposely to try and get the public to push for approving the EUA for the COVID mRNA treatments to even younger children. But that is just my thoughts, they do not have to be yours.
One more and then I’m done.
So if the above is true, how could the Texas Tribune get it so wrong? Was it #Fearmongering or #Sloppiness or #OutrightLying ??
A factor of 40 !
To put that in perspective, let me put it a different way.
Let’s say you agreed to buy/lease a new car. You were told the monthly payment would be $250/month. If instead the monthly payment was adjusted up by a factor of 40, your new monthly payment would actually be $10,000/month.
Do you see what they are doing??
Stop 🛑 reading or watching the news media as it pertains to COVID. It appears they have an agenda to get headlines which for now appear to want to hype and sensationalize COVID data more than it has already been.
COVID has been serious enough over the past 20 months without misleading and sensationalizing it further.
Please don’t fall for the fearmongering.
The media are out for ratings and headlines.
Look past the headlines and think critically about what you are reading.
Do their stories make common sense?
Do they pass the smell test?
Problem is most of their COVID headlines do not agree with the actual data they use to generate their fictional story.
FYI- I am not anti-media.
But I no longer trust the media.
I am anti-BS.
I am anti-fear mongering.
I want real and true data and research so I can guide my life decisions based on reality.
I’ve said it before and I will say it again.
I don’t want to prove myself right.
I want to get it right, regardless of any preconceived notions or bias I may have.
I just wish our media, government, Big Tech, Big Pharma and other major industries would do the same.
