Whether you are vaxxed or unvaxxed:
How long will you allow yourself to be mandated to get medical treatments, in this case, COVID vaccines or booster shots, or face losing your job, your freedom to travel, your ability to attend college/university, your freedom to interact with society at stores, restaurants and public gatherings?
Do you think it will end with just one more booster?
Take a look at your COVID vaccine cards. How many lines are there to be filled in? Do you think those extra lines are there just to take up room, or perhaps for further health mandates to be continually introduced?
Would you agree with mandates if they were about:
What food you are allowed to eat?
What medical interventions you need to have?
What drugs you need to take?
How bout if you are obese, hospitals can choose not to treat you if you get sick due to more expensive obesity related health conditions?
How bout if you smoke and you get Lung Cancer or Emphysema? —Tough luck, you smoked so no treatment.
Should we not treat drunk drivers if they end up in the hospital?
How about drug overdoses or suicide attempts?
If you let government health policy mandate COVID boosters do you think the mandates will end there?
If you believe in Socialized healthcare system with a Single payer, guess what?
The Single payer always gets to choose what they pay for, not you, with rules put in place for their own political social purposes, whether you happen to agree with those purposes or not.
If you are pro-choice, would you be happy if a Single payer system did not pay for abortions?
If you are pro-life, would you be happy if a Single payer system paid for all abortions?
This was just an example and not the purpose of this post.
I hope you will explore the questions I raised and see where this is heading.
The government never ends a program. They just keep expanding it at a cost both monetarily and socially to everyone. With every expansion and new rule you lose more of your liberty and freedom to do what you choose with respect to your health and your body.
Is that what you want?
Do you want there to be second and third tier neighbors based on medical/health status?
Do you want to be discriminated upon due to health choices?
Do you think this will end just with medical/health status?
Today it is COVID.
What if tomorrow it’s a health issue you have that makes you the new pariah?
Don’t think it can’t happen.
Remember 15 days to slow the spread? When exactly did that start and when did it end? Have the goalposts been moved just a bit?
18 months ago did you expect we would be where we are today with respect to the response to COVID?
If we truly want to follow the science then we should know that the science is never settled. There is always a smarter expert.
You can be an individual.
You can be a team player.
You can be a follower.
You can be a questioner.
You can be a leader.
You can be any of the above in any combination or all five.
You should be allowed in a free society to be all five.
That should be your choice.
But today, with respect to COVID, the authorities who decide upon health policy-guided by special interests, the media that broadcasts stories-mostly fiction and click bait, the tech companies that provide access to social media-unless they decide to censor you, the pharmaceutical companies that produce treatments-where they play hide/skew the data, only want you to be a follower, no questions allowed.
Is this the direction you want to go?
We are getting closer to a crossroads in what control you have over your own healthcare decisions. But remember, your healthcare decisions with respect to COVID may cost you your job, your ability to get an education, your ability to travel, your ability to freely congregate with others.
I’ll end with this.
In my practice we come to mutually agreed upon decisions on a healthcare path. There are no judgements, mandates, threats, or coercion. There are just choices you as an individual get to choose after informed discussions, debate and consent. You are responsible for choosing your direction. You are responsible for your health and are allowed to put together your own healthcare team that fits with your views.
If you want to continue down this freedom of healthcare choices path, then I hope you will think deeply about what you have just read.
I’m sorry if this post was more philosophical and less health and wellness common sense. But if you truly think about this, if we keep going in the present direction, how much common sense will be allowed?
Civil comments for discussion are always welcome, whether you agree or not.
That is the point.
Excellent article. Keep them coming
What will it take to maintain our freedom of choice? That brings me to somethingI have been pondering in light of the surprising number of educated, successful young people who are supportive of both vaccination and mandates. Back in the 60’s we questioned everything, trusted no one (especially authority), protested, spoke out, etc.
Have young people in particular lost their rebellious, free thinking tendencies? And of course, what is behind our entire society complacently proceeding down this slippery slope?
