I was going through my notes section on ICloud that I use to write down thoughts and ideas I come up with as well as what I have seen/read from others. I often use these notes as a springboard for a topic for Common Sense Health and Wellness. So today I am going to copy over some of those thoughts without expanding on them.
The Thoughts topic today is diet and nutrition. If you have followed the February Low Carb Challenge and the March Intermittent Fasting Challenge, I hope some of these thoughts resound with you or at least make you go Hmmmm…..
Please expand on my thoughts with what you have learned or thought about in the comments section. Your thoughts and ideas just may help others.
Carbs are not bad, they’re just optional.
Things that seem obvious to people who know but are not to most:|
1) Salt is not your enemy it’s sugar
2) Fat is only harmful in the presence of refined carbs
3) Vegetable oil is not “heart healthy”
4) Junk food increases hunger
5) Weight loss has nothing to do with counting calories
Have you ever tried to actually “binge” on protein
Eat as much steak as you can
Or chicken
Or fish
Or eggs
You’ll be full for hours, your appetite auto-regulates, it’s impossible to overeat on a high protein diet
No one is getting fat from red meat and salads
Misconceptions, such as the belief that dietary saturated fats cause cardiovascular disease, arise through misinterpretation of data and unwillingness to accept the fact that a hypothesis is not correct when the accumulated data do not support it.
If it’s new in the past 10,000 years, it might not sit well with our evolutionary development. Eat locally, seasonally and time restricted.
47 years ago the food pyramid was born.
Since then the amount of people with Diabetes tripled and Obesity doubled
What a fail. How could anyone think it works?
Sugar = Sugar
Starch = Sugar-Sugar-Sugar-Sugar-Sugar
Anyone who says eating red meat and getting sunlight are bad for you clearly does not eat any red meat or get any sunlight.
Ketones are protective against cardiovascular disease.
To get ketones, you just have to stop eating carb-laden junk.
Which is why health authorities are so reluctant to recommend it.
Older people have worse insulin sensitivity only because their body composition deteriorates. More body fat and less muscle, from eating processed foods and being sedentary.
Solution: lift weights and eat real whole food.
I was asked if vegetables could help with migraines. I said if bought frozen and put on your head maybe.
My patient said he eats whole foods.
When I asked which kind, he said “whole pizzas”.
Standard American Diet creates Standard American Diseases - obesity, diabetes, heart disease, fatty liver and more.
When you’re metabolically sick, good health seems out of reach & obstacles insurmountable. You make excuses and you keep doing/eating what made you sick in the first place.
These feelings are not rooted in reality. They are just judgments you made.
Change your narrative.
The human evolution of taste discrimination, brain reward signaling, and body fat regulation can't withstand the assaults of ultra-processed food. Big Food knows this and that's why their food tastes the way it does.
Instead of calling it the S.A.D. (Standard American Diet), we should called it the Political Parasite Diet, PPD. Because that's what the eff it is.
Government-subsidized monocrop commodities are what the food pyramid was built on. None of it has to do with health, just power.
What’s going to happen to you in 5, 10, or 20 years if you continue to eat the same way you do now?
Think about it honestly. If you don’t like the health projection, NOW is the best time to take action before you reach the cliff.
Same goes for anything else in life.
A ketogenic diet dropped liver fat by 31% in only 6 days, despite only 3% weight loss.
Grains are nothing but sugar molecules joining hands, and will break down into sugar. You can fool yourself thinking that grains are healthy, but you can't fool your body.
Why are we still trying to blindly lower cholesterol/LDL? I trust my body that it knows what it needs & how to regulate it. My body makes most of the cholesterol & recycles it for a reason. The fact that statins have so many side effects, tells us how dumb we are to interfere.
Body composition matters.
More fat mass = higher mortality risk
More lean mass = lower risk.
Canola Oil-Rich Diet Promotes Alzheimer's in Mice Compared to Control Diet. The AHA (American Heart Association) still promotes Canola oil to prevent Alzheimer's even though there's no evidence that it can do that.
A $2 snickers bar weighs 1.8 ounces. That's $17.78 a pound. How much is ribeye in your area?
Eating fat is as likely to make you fat as eating green vegetables is to turn you green.

Uncontrolled #insulin is “why we get sick” @BenBikmanPhD.
It’s simple, foods that keep insulin low are meat, fish, eggs, non-starchy vegetables and healthy fats (animal fats, coconut oil, avocado oil).
Vegans think cholesterol and saturated fat are bad for you even though the body will make them if you don't eat them
Low carbers think glucose is bad for you even though the body will make it if you don't eat it
Maybe they're both wrong.
The doctor of the future will prescribe heavy lifting, whole foods, high protein, a gallon of water & 8000 steps a day.
There’s been a 50 year concerted effort to reduce red meat, eggs, full fat dairy & high-fat foods like avocado.
They fed you juice, fruit snack, cereal, whole-grain bread.
The result were disastrous.
America is obese, diabetic & hypertensive.
Breaking News! Saturated fat may cause heart disease! No no no, not the saturated fat you eat. The saturated fat your body makes itself....from carbs...
Intermittent Fasting = great for fat loss
Eating consistently throughout the day = great for muscle gain
976 days of only consuming meat & drinking water & I continue to experience:
Zero constipation
Zero headaches
Zero joint pain
Zero bloating
Zero brain fog
Flawless digestion
Pain-free elimination
Happiness
JoyDoes your way of eating treat you as well? If not, why continue it?
So which of the “thoughts” were your favorites?
Did any resonate with you or make you go Hmmmm…?
The Snickers vs Rib eye comparison was eye-opening!! The vegetable for migraines was hilarious!
Other benefits of cooking at home are that I imagine you burn more calories, shopping for your ingredients, preparing, cooking and cleaning up than either sitting in a restaurant, popping your prepackaged food into the oven or microwave or picking up take in disposable containers. Cooking also keeps your mind active and can inspire creativity.
