Yesterday I asked some questions about what things have in common.
I asked questions obviously to start the thinking process. If there is one thing I can’t stop myself from doing, it’s thinking. But all the thinking usually keeps me out of trouble so I won’t stop.
For those of you who went thru the thinking exercise with me, the answers were clothing, small electronics, styrofoam and alcohol. Seems kind of eclectic don’t you think??
Hooray, I got to use the word eclectic today. I always try to add some new words to Common Sense Health and Wellness.
Now that you have the answers can you figure out what they have in common compared to everything else?
I will give you a hint.
There are new rules in the State of NJ regarding plastic use.
I agree that plastic is not good for the environment.
Plastics are also not good for your health.
There are many aspects of plastic that can be damaging. One of the most talked about dangers of plastics is how they are what we call XENOESTROGENS, meaning they act like estrogen in our body. That is not necessarily a good thing when we are trying to keep all of our hormones properly balanced.
But xenoestrogens will most likely be a topic for another time.
But let me bring up something perhaps you have not thought about.
Over the past few years we have had even greater exposure to plastics in our environment, especially with inhaling plastics that come from wearing face masks.
So I have some questions:
By trying to avoid inhaling a microscopic respiratory viral particle have we instead been chronically inhaling plastic nanoparticles?
If the research and data on plastics show health issues when used chronically, should we continue to mask up at work or at schools?
Isn’t it funny how asking a few questions just brings up more questions?
If humans were meant to wear masks to shield from viruses, don’t you think humans would have evolved with masks over our face?
Maybe, just maybe, give me a second here, perhaps humans have evolved a way to defend from respiratory pathogens not by a physical mask but instead by using our natural immune system, you know, the one that lines every square inch of our body including our respiratory system.
Perhaps we should work to improve the function of our natural mask, our immune system?
Hey, I’m just asking questions and I am not the only one.
Some important points.
If you believe a mask will protect you from respiratory viruses then wear a mask. You are not hurting anyone else by doing so and I respect your opinion.
If you believe eating a Vegetarian diet improves your health, you are not hurting anyone else by doing so and I respect your opinion.
If you believe a keto or carnivore diet improves your health, you are not hurting anyone else by doing so and I respect your opinion.
But I do ask that you read thru the linked article above about the possible dangers to yourself over time by breathing in all the nanoparticle micro plastics contained in the plastic masks.
As always I believe you should have as much information as possible and see as many sides of an issue as you can before you decide what to do. This is called open dialogue and informed consent. It also means we can agree to disagree and still work and play together.
I love dog pics. I’ll have to start using them more.
Open dialogue and informed consent is critical in healthcare as no one healthcare professional, politician , or media guru has all the answers. Supposed anonymous fact checkers certainly do NOT have the answers so please ignore them as much as possible. Fact checkers are more meant to nudge, steer, cajole or move you in a desired direction that usually profits others, others being whoever pays them for their opinions, in some way.
You should get to choose for yourself how to live your life as long as you do not purposely harm others in the process. In the same vein others should not get to choose for you how you take care of yourself, your body and your health.
Is this really so “out there” in todays society?
Since the April challenge is about activity, I thought this quick video on “toning” is great. I think getting “tone” is the goal of many people who start weight training.

“… then wear a mask. You are not hurting anyone else by doing so”
These ritualistic face covers are still forced in some situations(transit/aeroplanes, some retail, some schools, some jobs, all hospitals etc.). However, the point focused on the voluntary wearing of these things. Indeed, no other person is physically harmed, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t harm being done. One could argue that this new cultural behaviour has a negative impact on the society as a whole. I’m going to go so far as to state, that this “new normal” is in fact, not normal.
