Have u heard of?
Rotavirus vaccine - initial one
Perhaps not.
The above treatments were all once touted by Big Harma and approved by the FDA, now known as a subsidiary of Big Harma. The treatments were also all taken off the market due to bad side effects that harmaed (new word I made up for side effects from Big Harma treatments) many people who used them.
It didn’t use to be that way, or perhaps I was just young and naive. When I was in medical school 30+ years ago, I trusted Big Harma as well as the FDA. But now they appear to be one organization, “doing business as” one organization, with the full backing of our politicians. I guess $$ do have power.
But let me not digress too far.
This is a Common Sense Health and Wellness newsletter so let me get to the part where I ask you to open your minds and think for yourself. So back to the movie, “They Live”.
They Live was a dystopian movie from 1988 starring a professional wrestler by the name of Rowdy Roddy Piper. He was probably the main reason I watched the movie. He proved that he was a better actor in the wrestling ring than on camera, but I digress.
Without giving away too much of the movie plot, let’s just say that not everything is as it seems. What you are allowed to see and hear in the world, and I am only talking about health and wellness here, may not be what is real. In the movie you had to wear a special pair of sunglasses to see the “real” world. In our world I believe it is the opposite. Too many in the healthcare industry have glasses on that block out the real world. They only see thru narrow lenses and not real life events.
They see and promote what they believe are benefits of treatments but are unable, unwilling or ignorant to the opposite or downsides of the same treatments.
Knowing this, I try my best to keep my eyes and mind wide open.
There are many Big Harma treatments I would not use in practice. My general rule is to never use a new treatment or medical technology until it has been out and tested in real life for at least 2-3 years. This generally is for added safety, see the Lyme and Rotavirus vaccines and the Vioxx example stated earlier.
Soooo….
Can you guess what treatment I am going to pick on next??
But first a quick pic of a meal I made over the weekend.
Low Carb, Gluten-Free and delicious.
Shrimp Bisque
Made with Seafood broth, 1 lb of shrimp, chopped onion, celery, carrot, garlic, salt, pepper, herbs de provence, tomato paste and heavy cream. It was absolutely delicious. Did take about an hour to make as we had to shell the shrimp and use the shells to use to flavor the broth even more. But the time spent was well worth it. The green stuff floating on top was just for garnish and to make it look pretty. I had three small bowls for dinner and there was only about 1 serving left for later. Bummer.
Back on topic.
Can you guess what treatment I am going to pick on next??
If you guessed mRNA injections, you are incorrect. Not because I trust them, I don’t, but because I want to focus on something else today.
You have surely heard of the weekly injections for weight loss and Diabetes known as GLP-1 agonists. At this point in time I would avoid Big Harma’s versions of these treatments known by the names Wegovy, Mounjaro, Zepbound and Ozempic.
It is my hope that the FDA remove these GLP-1 drugs due to the ever increasing risk of harms. But since the FDA and Big Harma appear to be working together, I don’t see that happening any time soon. So this newsletter is a call to beware and not just jump at the chance to use those medications without a deep dive into how they work.
One of my main issues with these prescription GLP-1 drugs is that they turn on multiple mechanisms in the body for long periods of time, up to 24 hours a day for 7 days until it is time for the next dose. Problem here is that these multiple mechanisms are not meant to be active 24-7. These mechanisms are usually meant to only be active for a few hours after eating and then reduce to normal low baseline levels.
Example:
You have an itch on your arm. You scratch the itch with your nails for a few seconds. The itch goes away. All is well. What if you had an itch on your arm, and you scratched it with your nails, but instead of just for a few seconds, you continually scratched it repeatedly for a few hours? How would your arm feel then?
This is the simplest example of why I am NOT in favor of these GLP-1 Big Harma treatments. I am sure there are others but this one is enough for me.
So the reason for writing this today is for some reinforcement.
Don’t believe much of anything you see, hear or read about your health and wellness. Don’t believe everything I write. Look and research for yourself. Ask many questions and then ask even more. Don’t just trust a corporation or government thinking they have your best interests at heart. Your health and wellness is at stake and you need to take control and more important, you need to take responsibility for your health and wellness decisions.
Trust me though when I say Big Harma, Big Government, Big Food and Big Media are NOT looking out for your individual best interests.
Did I leave out any Bigs???
At the IMW, I will not make health and wellness decisions for you. I will not pressure, coerce or threaten you to make decisions. I will though discuss both traditional and non-traditional aspects of health and wellness so you have a broader approach to maintaining good health. I will try and inform you as much as possible with enough information so you can work through it to make your own health and wellness decisions.
So don’t be a follower when it comes to your health.
Expose yourself to as much information as you need so you can LEAD yourself to optimal health.
That being said, if you are not yet a subscriber to Common Sense Health and Wellness, now is a great time to “follow” what I write, even if just for a good laugh….
As always, comments and questions welcome.
Look up Brian Lenzkes. I think he does mostly virtual at this point.
EXCELLENT synopsis.
