I don’t know.
There is just something about cheese.
I guess it all started when I was young and my parents wanted me to smile for pictures. They would always tell to me and everyone else in the picture to say CHEESE and smile. Maybe that’s why when I think of cheese or eat cheese I smile.
How can anyone govern a nation that has two hundred and forty-six different kinds of cheese?
In healthcare, cheese has gotten a bad rap over the past half century most likely due to the low fat diet craze and the accompanying war on fat.
But that craze has diminished with more and more research pointing out that natural dietary fat is not only NOT harmful, but may actually be good for you. I say actually because there is rarely one dietary factor that works alone. We always need to look at the whole dietary and lifestyle picture if able.
Cheese is milk's leap toward immortality.
So I came across a recent research article/review on one of my favorite types of food.
Here was the studies conclusion:
Conclusion: In this population-based cohort study, the inclusion of cheese in the LLDS did not change the inverse associations with incident cardio-metabolic diseases and all-cause mortality. Furthermore, we found no significant association of total cheese intake with plasma dp-ucMGP. The results suggest that cheese is a neutral food group that fits a healthy diet.
Lifelines Diet Score (LLDS), a score based on the Dutch FBDG 2015 in relation to incident cardio-metabolic diseases and all-cause mortality.
Translating to normal language,
“The MORE cheese they ate, the LOWER their risk for heart disease and metabolic disease (Diabetes, Obesity) and the LOWER their risk for dying from ANY CAUSE.
I luv cheese. It’s almost always a part of every meal I eat. Glad to see a study further agreeing with my view that cheese is a health food.
I think I saw the below quote on an SAT practice test. I wonder how many students got the question correct?
Washington, DC is to lying what Wisconsin is to cheese.
In my home I have a cheese drawer with multiple selections to choose from.
Here is a bit of cheese-porn for ya.
Caution: Do not let anyone under 18 see this as well as no one with dairy sensitivities. I can not be responsible for what would happen next.
“Life is great. Cheese makes it better.”

But wait, there is more.
Mixing Monterey Jack cheese with garlic and herbs…
Kerry Gold Irish Reserve Cheddar made from grass fed cows.
I rarely snack but when I do I want to remain lower carb. Nothing beats some Roth snacking cheese. Above is cheddar on the left and Gouda on the right.
They both have 5 grams of protein, 5 grams of natural fat and ZERO carbohydrates per serving. So they work great on a lower carb diet. I get the cheddar from Misfits Organic Market Home Delivery and the Gouda I found at Sprouts in Marlton.
Creamy Havarti on the left is just creamy and smooth. Tastes even better dipped in a small amount of balsamic vinegar.
I don’t remember where I got the Ghost Pepper Colby Jack.
The Roasted Garlic Cheddar Cheese I found at Williamstown indoor farmers market. If you like roasted garlic you will luv this cheese.
Did you know that many cheeses are high in Vitamin K2 which has been shown to be very helpful at preventing heart disease, improve bone health and helps to keep calcium where it should be in the body, instead of loose and causing trouble?
The two mozzarella’s in the middle are from a small farm that comes to the Rancocas Farmers Market on Sunday mornings. Their mozzarella cheese is fantastic.
Smoked Gouda has been a fav of mine for a long time.
Don’t forget that some cheese is made from raw milk which MAY have other healthy properties dependent upon your gut health.
I will end the Cheese-a-thon with a cheese that I get at most once a year as a special treat.
Yes just like most people I very much like chocolate, but it doesn’t necessarily like me if I eat too much of it. So not much better than a treat every now and then with two of my favorites, cheese and chocolate.
So let me end with the findings of the study again.
“The MORE cheese they ate, the LOWER their risk for heart disease and metabolic disease (Diabetes, Obesity) and the LOWER their risk for dying from ANY CAUSE.
FYI: I don’t think processed cheeses have as many of the same health benefits nor any cheese that comes in a can or a spray bottle. I would also avoid any type of cheese crackers as it is really no longer cheese but instead cheese mixed with a grain.
I am NOT a fan of grains for a healthy diet.
What is your favorite cheese?
Let me know in the comments below.
English cheddar and/or melted cheese curds!
