I try my best to stick to my promises. I said I would let you know if I learned anything new so here is hopefully the last stack on IHS NYC 2023.
I left off at the Toxin presentation. If you want to read that again or for the first time you can do so by clicking here.
The next presentation was given by Dr. William Seeds. Interesting fella. He is an Orthopedic Surgeon by trade. Yet his presentation felt more like a Metabolic Biochemistry class lecture. He is a bright bright guy and probably well ahead of his time. He calls himself a “Cellular Medicine Physician” as he brings everything back to how each cell works, as opposed to looking at the macro picture. Let me say this better. He is looking at the roots of an individual tree to improve the health of the tree instead of trying to treat the tree by looking at the entire forest.
His presentation was on the new widely touted GLP-1 Agonists being used by Endocrinologists for Diabetes and now many other healthcare professionals for weight loss and other metabolic imbalances.
It was an excellent presentation. I learned a whole bunch more about GLP-1 agonists.
It seems they “trick” the body into thinking it needs to burn more fat, almost regardless of what else is going on with the persons diet and lifestyle. Dr. Seeds is a big proponent of GLP-1 agonists.
I am not yet convinced.
I may be sarcastic.
I may joke around.
But I do not like the method of “tricking” anyone or any mechanism to do something that would be better done naturally.
Regardless of how I feel, you should expect a big push with advertising and medical organizations to start using GLP-1 agonists for many conditions correlated with Insulin Resistance. Maybe they will turn out to be better than I believe. But as I said before, I am not yet convinced of their long term safety or benefits.
My goal is not to have people rely on medications. Meds are fine when used appropriately, but not if they get added into the drinking water for everyone so that they then do not have to change any of their daily habits that caused their health and metabolic issues to begin with.
Every system in the body interacts with every other system, just like a symphony. When everything is working well together it is a pleasure. But throw one section/system off and the other parts don’t sound or work as well. I just don’t believe yet that a medication can rebalance a system for the better for the long-term without causing an imbalance in other areas.
All that being said, I would absolutely go to see/hear other presentations from Dr. Seeds. He truly is a bright bright guy with a whole lot of experience.
Next presentation was Beyond Fertility.
Engaging speakers.
Pretty much said that Subfertility or Infertility can be looked at as a sign of biologic aging. We should use the years when women are most fertile as their introduction to the healthy aging process.
Next presentation was on a Functional Medicine approach to Auto-Immune disease.
Here is what you may find interesting.
Did you know that most Autoimmune diseases begin 7-10 years before you have symptoms?
Did you know the Gut is where the majority of Autoimmune issues begin?
Did you know that coffee, i.e. java, can worsen Rheumatoid Arthritis and even Diabetes?
He had a good line at one point and I will quote here.
“Don’t surrender your health to the Traditional Healthcare System.”
The final presentation of the conference was from who many call the Father of Functional Medicine Dr. Jeffrey Bland.
His presentation was more about where Functional Medical thought started, where it is today, and where it may be headed to in the future.
Pretty much we want to learn to use true healthy diet and lifestyle mechanisms to improve health and wellness. To do so we will continue to research the root causes and triggers of aging and illness so we can learn how to stay healthy and vibrant as we age. We can not stop the aging process. But we hope to be able to help you enjoy aging and stay as vibrant, energetic and independent as you want to be.
The winner is not who lives the longest.
I see the winner as who has the most life in the years they live.
No reason you can’t have both.
That is my quest for everyone at the Institute for Medical Wellness.
So hopefully, this ends my recap of the recent 2023 IHS Conference in NYC, at least as I saw it. As multiple presentations were occurring at the same time I could not see them all, unless of course I paid extra to have access to all the video recordings. Taking time off from work, paying for transportation and a hotel room, as well as some nice NYC dinners, I decided I had spent enough for now.
But there will always be other Conferences, meetings and webinars that I attend.
Believe me when I say if there is something good worth writing about, you will find it here in Common Sense Health and Wellness.
As always, comments and questions welcome about this stack or any of the other IHS Conference stacks which can be found linked below.
Very interesting - thank you for sharing. This quote said it all for me
“Don’t surrender your health to the Traditional Healthcare System.” In other words, user beware and be informed.
Thanks so much! I appreciate that you take the time to explain and share important info. You e answered questions ie regarding cosmetics, and I guess there is no magic pill! Everything you said makes sense - good and wholesome common sense.
