“The four first letters in health is heal”.
’Let healing food be your new medicine.’
Welcome to the Summer Challenge, hosted by me, DrH.
I hope to inspire you this Summer to work on improving your health.
So let’s get right to it.
Challenge #1 - Intro
Diet matters. What you put into your body matters.
What has always surprised me was how many people, especially doctors, are so concerned about what type of gasoline they put into their car or what type of motor oil they use for their engine. Yet many traditional doctors give lip service to what you actually put into your body via your diet. I guess they do not believe you are what you eat.
Actually, I do not believe that either.
I do not believe we are what we eat.
But I do believe we are how our body handles and processes what we eat.
Think about it.
How come when we are young, in our teens, twenties and probably even thirties, we could eat just about anything and still feel well and healthy? Yet we hit our forties and later, and then, woah, it doesn’t quite work that way anymore.
As we age, we put wear and tear on our body. When young and full of growth and other hormones to spare, we are able to repair and recover fairly quickly. But we start losing that ability as we reach our 30’s and that ability further decreases as we continue to age.
But, we can slow down this process. We can even reverse some of it.
Slowing down the aging process is a big part of the 2023 IMW Summer Health Challenge. So if you are not yet signed up to be a part of the Challenge, you can do so now by joining with a paid subscription.
So here is Challenge #1
It is so very important to put quality food while avoiding non-quality, what I call #FakeFood into your body.
#RealFood spoils if not refrigerated or frozen.
#FakeFood can stay at room temperature, in a box, or on a shelf for many many months. That’s actually not a good thing and I’m sorry but that is just not proper nutrition. #FakeFood is dead food. We are not vultures.
#RealFood was very recently alive, or is frozen/refrigerated to avoid spoiling.
CHALLENGE #1:
Stop eating #FakeFood.
Stick to eating foods that your great-great-great great ancestors could eat.
Avoid those foods that they could not eat or were not available to them.
Make 2023 the Summer of #RealFood
Today is July 5, 2023 unless you are late to the Challenge party.
Look through your kitchen and pantry. Move #FakeFood out of sight. DO NOT use #FakeFood in your recipes. Perhaps give it away to someone you don’t like or who doesn’t much care about what they eat.
Perhaps we should do as our friends across the Atlantic and go to grocery stores daily to get fresh food to make our meals. If not then other than spices, try and use only ingredients from your fridge and freezer.
I will be starting a chat in the Common Sense Health and Wellness substack chatroom at some point today. Let’s everyone take a pic or two of your favorite challenge meals this week and share with everyone.
You can get to the chat room by downloading and installing the Substack app below. The app also allows you to receive and read all substack newsletters on your device, including of course, your favorite, Common Sense Health and Wellness.
Here is an example of a meal I very much enjoy made following Challenge #1 rules.
It tasted even better than it looks.
Pics like this will be in the chatroom where everyone will be able to upload their own Challenge meals and if they are up to it, add some quick recipes as well. Uploading pics and recipes is not a requirement for the Challenge, but you might be surprised how much it helps not just you but others as well.
The above #RealFood pic is 5 baby lamb chops with a small side of asparagus and yellow pepper.
All of the above was cooked in the same Lodge cast iron pan with a little garlic olive oil and spices. It was #delicious.
FYI
The Summer Challenge will not focus solely on diet and nutrition. There will be many other topics covered soon, including getting some exercise to help the body heal and get stronger. So stay tuned.
Also, don’t forget, everyone in the Challenge has been provided a 25% discount on all nutritional supplements thru Fullscript. If I do the math correct, I was a Chemistry major not a math major, you would only need to spend $20/month on supplements to break even by joining as a paid subscriber.
As always, and especially with the challenge, comments and questions welcome as well as open for discussion both here and in Common Sense Health and Wellness substack chatroom. So let me know how you are doing with Challenge #1, along with any other comments/questions you may have.
