I have a confession to make.
It’s probably one that most of us have made fairly often.
So here goes.
I believe I know HOW to eat healthy.
I believe I know WHY to eat healthy.
I believe I know WHEN to eat healthy.
I believe I know WHERE to eat healthy.
I believe I know WHO(M) to share a meal with to be healthy.
But knowing all of the above, that does not mean I do as well as I need to with my eating. I joke around often with my daughter and blame her when I do not eat right. But it is not her fault if I do not eat right. My wife and I share different “hunger” schedules, but I enjoy sitting with her and having a meal, even if I am not truly hungry. But if I eat a meal with her when I am not hungry, it is not her fault.
So I have decided, as of Sunday June 23, 2024, that to the best of my ability, I am going back to my better eating patterns. Using those patterns I only eat when I am truly hungry.
What does this mean?
It means when I eat, it will be to the best of my ability, real food, and food that works with HOW my body and metabolism work best. For me this means lower carbohydrate, carnivore-ish.
It means when I eat, it will be to the best of my ability, I will know WHY I am eating. Am I eating because I am hungry? Am I eating because it’s time to eat? Am I eating because it is scheduled into my day? Am I eating because I am bored? Am I eating to celebrate? Am I eating to suppress other feelings/issues? I need to know WHY I am eating and move towards eating because I am truly hungry.
It means when I eat, it will be to the best of my ability, I will eat WHEN the time is right to eat. To me this means eating WHEN it is daylight, and not when it is dark. Whether I eat in the morning, afternoon or evening is up to me, as long as it is daylight. Many studies have shown that eating during daylight hours is healthier for your metabolism. A healthy metabolism helps improve many other if not all systems of the body.
It means when I eat, it will be to the best of my ability, I will eat WHERE I am most comfortable and relaxed. I will NOT eat in a stressed environment. I will not eat WHERE I will feel rushed or pressured. I will most likely choose to eat WHERE my family eats, usually at home around our table. I will try my best NOT to eat in bed, in the car or while watching a show on TV. WHERE I eat also can affect other areas of my health. If I eat out at a restaurant that uses inflammatory ingredients, then I may not be as healthy as I choose. So WHERE I eat is my choice and is a part of health and wellness.
It means when I eat, I will, to the best of my ability, choose to eat my meals with WHOMever I choose. As mentioned earlier that is usually with my family as well as friends. Eating should be a non-stressful and enjoyable experience. Eating is not only for nutrition, health and wellness, but it can also be social. Why are so many special occasions celebrated with food?

I can sum up your post: you've been away from home, now repent ! Wildwood w/o pizza, For me that's a thing now. Night eating is not wise or desired, ongoing. I think it will be a more difficult to eat before dark in the early nights of fall and winter.
I also agree. I feel that I could’ve written the same post myself. I have definitely been sliding backwards on the healthy eating and I don’t know why. My recent labs proved that. It’s easy to deny until you see it in front of you in black and white. By the way thanks for not judging Dr. H. One of the things I do is eat because it’s time. Even when I’m not hungry. That sounds so dumb as I’m typing it. Great post by the way. I need a little kick in the butt to get back on track. Also it’s nice to know that I’m not alone. Let’s all try harder and make Dr. H proud of us. Hmmm I’m hungry now.
