Even though I have been Carnivor-ish for close to 8 years, sometimes my eyes are bigger than my stomach.
You see, I made a bet with someone that I could eat 2 one pound ribeyes at one sitting.
Unfortunately, when you lose a bet there are consequences.
Moral of the post- “Don’t make bets you aren’t sure you can win.”
But not all is a loss. Yes, I know my hair has been at a loss for many decades now. What remains looks more like salt than pepper. But I guess that is not all bad. Sometimes in life, salt colored hair and 3 decades of experience can open opportunities I never thought possible.
I have my own political views that I never ever let get in the way of the care I provide at the Institute for Medical Wellness. Butt, and there are always butts in the world, especially in what I am about to say, I at times have been a bit outspoken about how our healthcare system has devolved. I remember growing up as a kid and always respecting doctors and nurses and really all healthcare professionals. They were looked up to by most people in my community. What advice they gave was rarely questioned. They had the trust and the support of their patients and their communities.
Fast forward to making my way through my earlier medical training and I noticed things shifting.
Beware- long run on sentence approaching. Grammar teachers may need to bite their lips.
As the healthcare system devolved from a local grassroots independent community and family based system into a top heavy government insurance controlled behemoth of a medical industrial complex, healthcare professionals lost their way and became cogs in a process that was set up by the behemoth to be a growth industry for corporate profits, power and control.
Whew, try and say that out loud in one breath….
My point is that I saw this coming a few decades ago and decided to get out, create my own system of care, that is known as the Institute for Medical Wellness (IMW). In doing so, there were some bumps along the way for me in explaining how the IMW was different, but as of today, 17+ years since I founded the IMW, my ideas were not just my own, but also discovered and thought through by hundreds if not thousands of other doctors and health professionals who want to take their services directly to you, WITHOUT the behemoth getting in the way.
Why am I saying all this?
Well, why not?
It’s kind of cool knowing an idea and a dream that I have always had, an idea developed and practiced very early on, not only took hold, but altered and improved by others throughout New Jersey and really throughout the country. Nice part is that some docs who I mentored about how to develop a Direct Care practice have now become mentors for others as well. I guess we can call that paying it forward??
An opportunity I created and helped others develop further for themselves has taken hold. It’s kind of cool. I like to stay in my lane, in my own little small practice I don’t want fame. I just want to be left alone to do what I do at the Institute for Medical Wellness.
But sometimes other opportunities arise that make me think, that could make the Institute for Medical Wellness even better while perhaps altering the trajectory of the behemoth of the healthcare system as well. Pretty cool 😎!!
I was not allowed to say this for the past month, but I was given the green light last week to inform my practice that I have been asked to travel to the dungeons in D.C. to meet with RFK, Jr and his staff to discuss how to improve the healthcare system. I was also told that RFK wanted a few exercise tips as well, Ha Ha.
I think somehow my combination of Traditional healthcare like we had 30+ years ago, mixed with Functional Wellness has drawn some attention.
I guess the focus on truly improving people’s health instead of putting band aids on the chronic health epidemic has received more attention than I realized, wanted or needed.
So in a few days I will be going to D.C. I might have to cut my conference trip short by a day or two, but I guess the chance to be involved in righting the sinking ship of our healthcare system is worth it.
So now I ask all of my readers, what should I say to RFK?
Should I stick to Functional Wellness?
Should I discuss diet?
Should I discuss my Direct Care model?
Am I allowed to be my sarcastic self or do I need to rein that in?
I’ve never done this before, never in my life thought I’d ever be involved in something like this, so really I am not quite sure how to “behave” while getting my points across.
In school, when others wanted to get involved in committee after committee to gain power and prestige, I pretty much just ignored them and did my own thing. But I don’t think I can remain silent now.
So if anyone has any ideas or words of wisdom, please let me know in the comments below, and please, don’t be shy.
I’ll be posting details from the meeting, as allowed, in future Common Sense Health and Wellness posts. So if you don’t as yet follow me here, maybe now is a time to follow or subscribe.
When will I ever learn? I’ve been a member of your wellness group for more years than I can remember and I fall for your April fools every year.
The most gullible!
I was actually very excited for you😂
By next April 1st, you'll be the 'head' of the CDC! https://photos.app.goo.gl/Kpi27e7yCDmpr4Fv7
