Just don’t tell that to mainstream medicine. They are still taught that Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic irreversible disease that requires more and more medications and eventually insulin. They probably still think the world is flat and the universe revolves around the earth. Us smart people know better. We know the world revolves around Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson and Moderna…………….
What is Type 2 Diabetes?.
Type 2 Diabetes is a condition of chronic excess dietary carbohydrates that your body can no longer safely handle.
What do I mean by this?
Let’s discuss.
When you eat carbohydrates (carbs), whether they be processed carbs- bread, cookies, cakes, candy, sugar etc, or natural carbohydrates found in all plant food, these carbs get turned into Glucose in your body. This Glucose is easily measured in your blood and high levels are one of many markers of Type 2 Diabetes.
What does your body do with the Glucose from the carbohydrates?
To simplify, it either burns the Glucose for energy - poof it is gone
or
it stores the excess glucose as either Glycogen in muscles and liver (this is a very small amount) or it converts the excess glucose into Triglycerides (a fat) and stores it for future use (this is usually the larger and ever growing amount).
Pretty cool how the body is always trying to prepare for the future, just in case of a Fast, Famine, Supply chain disruption or Government Lockdown when food is not readily or easily available.
So let’s now just stick to excess dietary carbohydrates and where they get stored as fat.
Our body is pretty smart. It evolved that way or we would not be here. Think about it. If we were not able to store excess dietary carbohydrates as fat our ancestors might not have survived a famine.
The way I see it, excess dietary carbohydrates first get stored in safe areas, usually as subcutaneous fat. These areas are NOT close to any internal organs and are usually in the arms, legs, hips, thighs and buttocks. Name an internal organ in your arms, legs, hips, thighs or buttocks if you can. I don’t know of any. Well I think many politicians brains may be in close proximity to their buttocks butt……
When your subcutaneous fat stores are near full, you start storing excess dietary carbohydrates in or near visceral organs as fat. Problem- too much fat in the organs can mess up their function.
As these organs are filling up, excess dietary carbohydrates “back up” in your blood and you get the high blood glucose and triglyceride readings we all see in Type 2 Diabetes. The longer you continue with the excess dietary carbohydrates, the more fat filled and inflammatory the organs become. I call this metabolic inflammation.
Some examples of excess carb fat in organs and the problems that may arise.
Fatty Liver - precursor to Diabetes, Cirrhosis, Liver Cancer
Retinas - precursor to Diabetic Retinopathy
Kidneys - precursor to Diabetic Nephropathy, Kidney failure, Dialysis
Pancreas - precursor to Diabetes
Artery walls - precursor to Arterial blockages that can cause heart attacks, strokes, etc. I actually believe the large percentage of heart attacks from blocked arteries are due to chronic Diabetic physiology resulting from chronic excess dietary carbohydrates.
Visceral/Organ fat from excess dietary carbohydrates does not sound like something I would want to remain healthy.
So let’s get back to the original question.
Is Type 2 Diabetes reversible?
The answer remains - You Betcha!!
If you can develop Type 2 Diabetes from chronic consumption of excess dietary carbohydrates that overwhelmed your safe storage sites, then we can reverse this.
How do we put this in reverse?
Simple answer.
Reduce your dietary carbohydrates.
This can be done by any version of a lower carbohydrate diet.
When you lower your dietary carbohydrates, unless you eat a tremendous amount of dietary fat, your body will be looking for fuel from energy other than glucose. As the body is extremely smart, it will first look to remove and burn for energy the excess fat stored in/near your organs. This removes the excess metabolic inflammation from the organs allowing them to function better and reverses the damage that has been occurring. Our body is just brilliant if you treat it well.
This is how you reverse Type 2 Diabetes.
Taking pills does not reverse Type 2 Diabetes. It just masks it by forcing more Glucose out of your blood but into your already overloaded fat cells, which as you just learned, may not be safe. Remember your fat cells don’t have unlimited room. They have a safe storage limit and disease processes occur when you go over that limit.
Taking insulin will also just move more glucose into your fat cells. This is why most Type 2 Diabetics who end up using insulin gain even more weight. How can that be healthy? Psst… It is not!!!
There are many lab tests we use at the IMW to evaluate your metabolic inflammation and risk of Diabetes. They can include:
Fasting Glucose
Fasting Insulin
HOMA-IR
Lipid profile
Leptin
Adiponectin
Uric Acid
Liver Function Tests
Hemoglobin A1C
Fructosamine
If you are an IMW member, we can discuss this in more detail at your annual wellness evaluation.

Since going on a very low carb diet my diabetes has been completely reversed… My H1C is under five and I am completely off any meds that I was on before! It’s a matter of nutrition, not pills! I suggest if anyone has Netflix to watch the approximately one hour documentary called The Magic Pill… It’s an eye-opener.
