So I decided to try out a little experiment on Friday.
I have been very good on my carnivorous challenge so far. I started on Saturday, 2 days ahead of the official #IMWChallenge day. So Friday marked day 7 for me and I am officially down 2 lbs .
But will it hold until tomorrow and why do I ask?
My appetite and cravings for carbs have been very much reduced this week. So I decided to see what having a small amount of carbs in the form of 1/2 a teaspoon of honey in hot tea would do if I had it in the morning without any other food. So in other words, just sugar to start off the morning.
So at 8:30AM I did just that.
1/2 teaspoon of honey in hot tea.
So what happened?
Starting about 10AM, 90 minutes after the tea with honey I started getting hungry. Now I am rarely ever hungry in the morning. But I gave in and I had a snack of a couple small pieces of cheese. It was a total of 10 grams each of protein and fat. No carbs in cheese. That held me over until lunch, my usual first food of the day, around 12:30PM where I stayed carnivorous with salami and roast beef dipped in balsamic vinegar.
It was a good size lunch. But I was still hungry, much more than normal. I then added some Carnivore Crisps- Beef Brisket style with a few dabs of cream cheese. Some people think bacon makes everything taste better. For me it’s cream cheese.
The honey in the tea appeared to increase my appetite. I didn’t necessarily have sweet cravings, but I did have more “hungers” than normal for me. To combat starting a bad carb habit, when I do give in to hunger I stick to carb free food such as some type of beef, fish or cheese. Another excellent high protein low carb snack is from SimplySnackin. They also write a good blog on lower carb lifestyles. A good read can be found here.
Friday dinner was a piece of leftover steelhead trout with zucchini, onions and peppers in a tomato cheese sauce. I probably had just as much veggie as trout so not exactly what I wanted for a more carnivorous meal.
I probably had two servings of the zucchini. I think the honey in the morning set off my hunger the rest of the day. So I probably learned my lesson there. No food for me in the morning other than an unsweetened beverage such as tea without any sweetener.
My weight as I started Day 8 for me was down 1.6 lbs. It was 2 lbs but the Friday honey day set me back 0.4 lbs.
So for this weekend I am making a whole chicken in the Instant Pot Pressure cooker. It will have a small amount of celery, onion, carrot and potato. Just enough for the amazing chicken soup that comes from chicken in the Instant Pot. Here are the main ingredients for the InstantPot Pressure Cooker Chicken/soup
Nothing like a hot bowl of homemade chicken soup on a January Winter day. Then I get to cut up the chicken and eat it throughout the weekend. My wife doesn’t eat chicken and my daughter doesn’t like eating chicken off the bone. So do you know what that means? It’s all for me!! Hooray!!!
So how is everyone doing a week into their #IMWChallenge ?
Let me know in the comments below.
So interesting. I had tea with honey this morning and was ravenous at lunch time.
