Ever heard that it is impossible to count the number of stars in the universe?
Well it is just as difficult to count the number of bacteria in or on our body as well.
Yep, we are as some high school chemistry teachers would say, “One Big Petri dish.”
Yuck!
Don’t get worried.
Most of the bacteria that reside on or within us are friendly and work with us in symbiosis.
Symbiosis: the living together in more or less intimate association or close union of two dissimilar organisms (as in parasitism or commensalism)
But there can also be bacteria or other minute living organisms on or within us that are not so friendly.
It is the job of our immune system to always scout out the territory and decide if something foreign is friend or foe. This immune balancing act occurs everywhere in the body, especially in the Gut.
