So I am at a Low Carb Boca conference from Friday thru Sunday. It was an interesting Day #1 as it was almost like a symposium on Women’s Health. There were some good speakers but probably only about 10% of each presentation had anything to do with Low Carb which was surprising.
Also I am used to going to Functional medical conferences. This one is NOT functional, so I get to hear from all the Traditional docs. Yes I often need to bite my tongue, but it is always good to hear how others approach things.
Anyhow…….
Here are some highlights in no particular order to think about.
Perimenopause is usually a Progesterone deficiency
1/2 truth + 1/2 truth = Whole Lie
Pertaining to many medical studies, GIGO which means Garbage In Garbage Out
Fix metabolic imbalances to prevent and manage female related Cancers.
There is an association between Hypothyroid and PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome).
Always work on liver detox pathways during any hormonal treatments.
Endometriosis may be triggered by Gut dysfunction/dysbiosis
Exercise does great when in a Keto state as it provides steady state energy, is anti inflammatory, decreases reliance on cortisol and insulin, and preserves liver glycogen stores.
In cows, heavy metal contamination collects more in their bones and marrow, and not in the meat. So eating the steak is cleaner than drinking bone broth.
Allergy/sensitivity to foreign bodies/metals in the body, such as meshes, artificial joints and implants, can take many years to manifest. Skin testing from an Allergist could help determine this is an issue.
Male brains work better under stress than female brains- ( don’t get angry, I am just passing on what I heard).
When women get pregnant they develop Insulin Resistance to support the fetus.
We had almost a 2 hour break at lunch so we drove to Whole Paycheck and bought food for the week as we will be down here at a BNB thru Sunday Feb 2nd.
We left the afternoon session at 6PM instead of staying for a Low Carb Wine Tasting followed by a 7:30PM Low Carb dinner with the attendees. I guess you can call me antisocial but pics below are what I cooked at home for dinner instead.
Grass Fed NY Strip with some shrimp cocktail. Not shown is a small bit of cocktail sauce and some cheese.
Branzino sautéed in Kerry Gold butter and fresh olive oil.
The Branzino was topped with a fresh homemade olive/garlic/scallion tapenade.
One meal was for me and the other for my wife.
Who do you think ate which for dinner?
What is funny is at one of the presentations one of the speakers stated that the problem with metabolic health these days is that no one cooks at home anymore and if they do they do not use healthy clean ingredients. My wife and I looked at each other and laughed as obviously the speaker has not been to our household.
Day 2 starts Saturday at 8am.
If I have time I will do my best to send another update.
Stay healthy and warm everyone.

Have fun Dr.H… Enjoy the time away, don’t believe anything you hear and only half of what you see. Your way of thinking is the reason that you’re my only physician! Safe travels! Enjoy your vacation as well.
I agree with Robert! Glad to know we have you looking out for us!
