So I made it through Day 2-3 at The Forum For Integrative Medicine (TFIM) in Austin Texas. It was kind of like drinking thru a garden hose at times. Lots of presentations with time as well to walk around the Exhibitors and hear what they have to say. What I find interesting is that as I go to many conferences like this, the people I get to know the most are the Exhibitors, many of whom recognize me and come talk to me instead of the other way around. I guess I am not able to hide away as well as I thought.
Before a recap on recent events, one thing I like about traveling to these conferences is that I don’t have a fridge calling my name all the time. I end up eating only 1 or 2 normal sized meals, no snacking and usually plenty of walking. If I have time I also like to get to the hotel gym. In other words, I am able to reset and get back into a healthier routine when traveling. Figure that one out…
Another nice thing is that while the presentations are going on, if something sounds like one of my IMW patients, I write their name down next to my notes to make sure I think it thru more to see if I have another method to help improve their health. So if anyone gets a Spruce message soon, it may be from new insights I was exposed to in Austin.
Now for some more Conference pearls. These are my interpretation of pearls and may not always agree with the presenters or others at the conference.
Looks like the large majority of speakers and attendees are NOT fans of the COVID mRNA injections as they are seeing an increase in many inflammatory conditions in their practices.
It has taken time, as I have been going to Functional conferences now for almost 10 years, but Keto-Carnivore is becoming mainstream as a method to improve health. I have heard Keto or Carnivore mentioned over a dozen times as an “intervention” to improve health, but have yet to hear anyone say the same about Vegan or plant based.
There is a difference between highly processed SEED OILS and natural Seed Oils found in food that has not undergone processing. As many of you may have heard, I have been reassessing my views on oils and fats, especially for cooking. I prefer to avoid oils in cooking that are liquid at room temperature as I am concerned about the heating oxidizing the fats and making them inflammatory. I prefer to use animal fats that are solid at room temperature such as butter, ghee and beef tallow. Others such as Lard, chicken and duck fat can also be used. One presentation today was about how Fish oil supplements are very inflammatory and that we don’t really need more than we can obtain from diet. They discussed how the majority of fats we get from diet are actually Omega 6 fats, but these fats are natural and unadulterated and unprocessed. These fats make up the super majority of all of our cell membranes. So if we lose the cohesiveness of the cell membranes through inflammation from other fats, our health suffers. Just prior to this presentation I had spoken in depth with representatives from Body Bio, a nutraceutical company that also has research showing Omega 6 Fats eaten or supplemented in a minimally or safely processed method can improve the health of your cell membranes and work similar to detoxification. So all this is very interesting and I will be looking into this much further.
Toxins and Detoxification have also gotten a lot of play here. I hope to work on different types of safe and simple detox methods to use at the Institute for Medical Wellness.
So that is probably enough for now. Just 3 hours of lectures today and then some time to try and put all I have heard into perspective. I hope to discuss more of this at my next IMW Group Wellness Zoom the end of April, time to be announced. I hops you will join me then.
Questions and comments always welcome.
I’m a little curious and confused… Should we then stay away from fish oil supplements because of the presentation about how Fish oil supplements are very inflammatory?
What is your feeling on this? I thought fish oil was meant to be good for the heart.🤷🏼♀️
