Cold and flu season is almost upon us
Winter is coming.
Sometimes I think we are living in a dystopian world so Game of Thrones lingo is relevant here.
Now for some truth bombs
We need to prepare.
If COVID decides to peak again in late Fall and Winter, when respiratory viruses usually circulate, we need to be ready.
The below picture shows when most respiratory viruses such as Influenza and Coronaviruses like SARS-COV-2 circulate. So unless we have herd immunity, there is a good chance of another COVID wave this Winter.
Vaccines may help protect those most vulnerable. But for how long the protection lasts and will there be any long term side effects, we don’t know. So you need to make the decision that best fits your beliefs. But please use logic, common sense and clear judgement when you decide. Do not use fear, coercion, threats, politics or social issues to make a medical decision for you. COVID does not care about those things. You shouldn’t either with respect to your health.
My common sense thoughts:
The best treatment is prevention.
I’ll keep saying it over and over until it clicks.

Good balanced health greatly reduces complications from COVID.
Fix your metabolism.
Get out of excess inflammatory storage mode that occurs when we are adding excess fat mass. Start shedding the excess fat weight and rebalance your other body systems such as your Nutritional, Gut, Immune, Hormonal, Inflammatory and Vascular systems.
In my practice I have noticed that people who have the healthiest metabolism tend to have the easiest time with COVID should they get sick.
My theory is that our innate immune system, the part that non-specifically attacks all foreign pathogens, works most effectively when you have a healthy metabolism. COVID vaccines work to stimulate our adaptive immune system, that produces antibodies, which is different than the Innate immune system.
In general, the healthiest metabolism appears to be in people with healthy lean body mass and without excess inflammatory fat mass.
In my practice we perform comprehensive annual labs. I call them the IMW-AWT.
Here are the key metabolic markers.
Low Fasting Insulin 3-7
Low Leptin <10 or < Adiponectin
HOMA-IR <2
HDL cholesterol < Triglycerides
If you are an IMW member, check to see where these levels were last time they were tested.
If you have not had these tests done, ask for them at your next annual.
So eat right and COVID may be less of a problem.

Here is a subtle secret.
COVID is here to stay.
The present vaccines in use did not get rid of COVID. We have as many or more cases of COVID this year-2021 with vaccines than last year-2020 without vaccines.
The boosters won’t get rid of COVID either as long as the boosters are the same as the initial vaccines. When it comes to a leaky vaccine, i.e. a vaccine that doesn’t sterilize/eliminate the pathogen, thereby allowing you to still get infected and spread the infection, the phrase “if at first you don’t succeed, try try again"- but with the same treatment that already failed, well, that’s just not using common sense.
The many future boosters are doubtful to help in getting rid of COVID.
Big Pharma will not save the world from COVID unless they develop a true sterilizing vaccine with few side effects. Most of us have had vaccines that work to truly prevent catching and further transmitting diseases when we were younger. These older vaccines were sterilizing and with little known long term issues. They worked as intended. The present mRNA based vaccines are more like temporary treatments whose benefits wear off quickly, hence the push for boosters. But the boosters are the same as the original jabs. If at first you don’t succeed try try again does not always work this way in therapeutics.
So with Winter coming, what should you do to prepare?
Maintaining or achieving a healthy immune system should be your goal.
You need to hear this, another truth bomb.
There is no such thing as Zero COVID. That is impossible at this point. It was pretty much impossible as soon as COVID left Wuhan or wherever it began in 2019. We have as much of a chance of Zero COVID as we do of discovering a cure for the common cold.
We need to learn to live with COVID.
But don’t fret. There are preventive measures as well as early treatments should you get infected.
So when will COVID start decreasing?
When will return to normal?
Will the world ever again be normal?
Unfortunately the answer to the above three questions is: not until enough people have been exposed to COVID, cleared it and become naturally immune. These appear to be the people who contribute to true herd immunity. The vaccines thus far have not.
The vaccines may be decreasing hospitalizations and deaths in some age groups. The data is suggesting this may be the case. But we need to see what happens with time, just like we have for all other vaccines pre-COVID.
This may not be popular opinion but it is the truth as I see it. You can have your own views as well. You can debate this topic all you want. Actually I encourage debate that is open, transparent, civil and without fear of censorship, ostracization, bullying, loss of friendship or loss of employment.
As I see it, people who took the COVID vaccines are not contributing to the herd. They can still get sick as well as spread the virus to others not yet in the herd. If they get COVID after getting vaxxed and recover, they should then count towards the herd that will eventually move us toward the end of COVID.
I am not asking people to purposely get COVID.
I am asking people to get in their best health possible so if they get COVID, they can kick COVID’s a-s quickly and join the herd that will end the pandemic.

With all these early treatments and more, I don’t understand the mandates. I am trying to understand the logic and the ethics. It’s probably better said by an ethics professor. It’s a short video, but I urge you to watch it.
