So yesterday, I wrote about how I gained some weight even while eating Carnivore as it can happen and sometimes needs to happen.
It happens to people who are underweight when they go Carnivore which is exactly what we want. So if you gain a temporary pound every now and then while sticking to Carnivore that is OK and nothing is wrong.
My example from overeating at a family function out at a restaurant, I gained about a pound. While the food was just about all protein and fat, with almost zero carbs, the quantity of the food was one reason. The extra salt was another.
Here is how I see it.
The excess fat would be stored in my body, but with excess salt and water needed to be safely stored in the fat, as for fat cells to expand, salt and water are needed. The good thing is if you go back to your normal Carnivore diet in normal amounts of food, you don’t need to retain all that salt and water, so you end of diuresing, or in simple terms clearing out the excess salt and water that you retained from the dinner binge. But if instead you eat more carbs, and your insulin increases to store those carbs, you may retain more of the excess salt and water and your weight remains up, but this weight is salt, water and fat from higher insulin levels. So one key to Carnivore is that it keeps your insulin levels at a healthier lower level. This is why this lifestyle is great for Type 2 Diabetics who have chronically elevated insulin levels from chronic excess consumption of carbohydrates.
Just shows how the body is always reacting to its environment and trying to remain safely in balance. A Carnivore diet helps your body achieve that balance.
I have not officially weighed myself yet this morning, but from the amount of diuresis, I would not be surprised if I not only lost the salt and water weight, but that my weight will be less than before the dinner binge, and back on track for my goals.
Ask me tomorrow if that has happened.
Have you noticed anything similar if you overate, especially with heavily salt laden food?
Let me know in the comments below.

Today I had a leftover pork chop for midday and ribeye (with a side of butter) for dinner.
Overeating or not, I don’t weigh myself but maybe once a month. Too much fluctuation day-to-day. Plus, a wise man once told me not to ‘chase numbers, go on how you feel’ (or in this case, how clothes feel on). 😉
I had some meatloaf with only meat and an egg. Dry but I pretended I liked it. 2 slices of bacon and an egg over the meatloaf. The biggest meal yet and hoping I didn’t overeat. Why hoping that, not sure. Getting used to eating early which is by far the biggest challenge for me. Hope all are doing good on this new way of eating.
