I have been attending a medical conference once again. It began on Friday and runs thru Sunday evening as it is in the Pacific Time Zone. The presentations begin at 11AM EST are not over til between 830-930PM EST. A long few days.
The conference is taking place in Vegas but I am attending online. Not only does that save me lots of travel time and expense, but also since I am not in Vegas I am allowed to tell you what happened in Vegas ; )
The 2022 Congress of Medical Excellence is produced by the American Osteopathic Society of Rheumatic Diseases (AOSRD). Wow, that name was a mouthful.
I picked this conference to attend as it usually has a decent blend of both traditional and functional medicine presentations as well as it counts towards my professional continuing medical education (CME) credits needed for medical licensure. So instead of attending another conference with the same Big Pharma Big Corporate Government Insurer sponsored drivel, I choose to attend a conference where I may actually learn something new and that makes me think. I understand making me think can sometimes be dangerous, but it can also be fun.
So over the next few days I will report back anything of interest that I learned or put up with in case it is also of interest to you as it relates to your health and wellness.
Fridays Presentations:
1- There was a presentation on the use of Coronary Artery Calcium (CAC) Scores and Lipid management for prevention and treatment of heart disease. I didn't learn anything new here but I have been using CAC testing at the IMW for over 10 years, probably as long or longer than the speaker. But I did learn how traditional cardiologists still appear to be very LDL cholesterol centric in their thinking and treatment decisions for elevated CAC scores. Their answer to everything is to lower LDL cholesterol as low as possible with statin medications. So the treatment aspects of this presentation was disappointing as the presenter came across as a member of the statin in the drinking water cult. There is a place for statins, but nowhere near how they are used today in traditional healthcare. Unfortunately I think it may take a decade or more for the statin brick wall to fall.
2- There was a presentation on Lifestyle Medicine which was really a plug for Plant Based diets. Do you really want me to give my opinion on this or should the phrase, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything" suffice? My suggestion to the conference organizer was to give equal time to a speaker about non-plant based diets so people can have full informed consent on opposing dietary options and then decide for themselves what they want to try to improve their health. There is no one best diet for everyone so let’s open the debate and break thru the industry propaganda and censorship.
Here was my response to the above presentation.
3- There was a very interesting presentation on Glutathione and Cyclodextrin, a combination OTC spray that has been found to help in the fight against COVID and other inflammatory disease processes. I will be looking further into this and see if it can be added to our protocols against COVID and other issues. The beauty of this treatment is that it is over the counter and not a Big Pharma prescription. Now this does not mean it is cheap, but when it comes to COVID the treatment is probably cheaper than potentially being hospitalized.
4- Infertility and Insulin Resistance - another good presentation that pretty much reaffirmed my beliefs that proper metabolism with low insulin levels and good Insulin Sensitivity are very beneficial for improving fertility both in women and men. If you want to get pregnant why not try getting your metabolism in as good a shape as possible before spending lots of $$ on traditional infertility treatments. You might be blessed sooner.
I'll hopefully be back with what I learned or didn't learn from Saturdays presentations tomorrow.
As always, comments and questions welcome below.
thank you for sharing!
Interesting conference info. Are you familiar with the work of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM)?
